What is RFID?
RFID or radio frequency identification uses radio waves for tracking and identification of objects. Radio frequency identification includes tags and interrogators. The RFID tags comprise of two parts – firstly an integrated circuit for storing and processing information, modulation and demodulation of radio frequency signal and secondly an antenna for reception and transmitting of signal. RFID can be put to several uses and one of the major one being enterprise supply chain management for improving efficiency.
The roots of RFID can be traced back to World War II when British placed a system on all their planes so that they could easily communicate and pinpoint them. Developments in this field took place in the 50's and 60's and by 1983 Charles Walton received the first patent with the name of RFID and the rest is history.
Development in the field of RFID is now taking place at a rapid pace and the day is not far off when RFID will be a part of each of us.
