The Best Netbooks Today

The best netbooks today run on free, open source operating systems. These netbooks are competing favorably with full size laptops running expensive operating systems.

Part of their advantage has to do with price, since many of these netbooks start at under $400 and feature slightly larger screen sizes than the typical 10 inch. One of the most popular new netbooks starts at $349 and offers an 11.6 inch screen, while another model starts and $499 with a 12.1 inch screen. Some analysts expect netbook sales to pick up again thanks to these latest models, as they eliminate many of the performance problems associated with the first generation of netbooks. Still, the new open source OS notebooks have some of their own issues, such as the fact that they need a constant internet connection and have trouble dealing with ZIP files and simple photo editing. The lowered price, nonetheless, still makes them an attractive option especially for computer users who need only basic functions.
